During the weekend of March 14th-15th, 2020, Melody grabbed a breakfast sandwich with her host mom and went geocaching for the very first time! She had a really nice time!
Of course, in Canada, there's also winter. Here's a few photos of what winter looks like here. This photo shows the side of St. Andrew's Presbytherian church (http://www.standrewsottawa.ca/who-we-are/the-building/). It is located downtown and is a beautiful church! I used to pass it on my way to work every single day. Saint Andrew is the patron saint of the Scots (a lot of settlers of Canada came from Scotland), so this church has a "Scottish" personnality and the Scotland flag floats above the church entrance. One can attend organ concerts for free there during the summer and the church also holds fantastic bazaars in the Spring and in the Fall. This photo shows the Supreme Court of Canada, on Wellington street, just in front of St. Andrew's church. The lawns in front of the Supreme Court are a very popular spot in summer : there is often a game of Ultimate Frisbee going on there! I like this aspect of the life, here: that the lawns of su...
On Saturday May 23rd, 2020, the host decided to take Peko-chan and Supergirl on another long walk. She thought that she may even be able to take them as far as downtown Ottawa by foot, but unfortunately her iPod's battery died on the way, so she could not take pictures... Still, Peko-chan and Supergirl got to see a neat tourist area of the old Hull. As for downtown Ottawa, the host told them that she would try to take them there later, especially since the bridges between Ottawa and Gatineau had just reopened. First, the host had to go get prescriptions as the drugstore: The building with a tower and a green roof that can be seen in the distance is the Parliament of Canada!: Various pictures taken on St. Joseph's boulevard, Hull's main commercial street: The bank that the host does business with: The St. Joseph's cathedral: An old municipal building: The old train station (the train doesn't run through Hull anymore), which had b...
Saturday July 25th was a beautiful day, so the host decided to take Ivan and Masha on a bike ride to explore the Sentier des voyageurs (Travellers Pathway), that runs along the Ottawa River, on Gatineau's side. They ended up travelling 20 km in total (both ways)! It was the longest ride that the host had been on since she buying her new bike! :-) On the way over to the Sentier des voyageurs, the host showed Ivan and Masha the ruisseau de la Brasserie (Brewery Creek - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruisseau_de_la_Brasserie ) as well as the pont de la Tour Eiffel (Tour Eiffel bridge - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tour_Eiffel_Bridge ). They also stopped to watch the wild birds : At the start of the Sentier des voyageurs : Strange looking tent-like sculptures: The Champlain bridge, one of half a dozen bridges that connect Ottawa and Gatineau: The host decided...
