Peko-chan helps her host paint a window mural - March 23rd to 27th 2020

Peko-chan spent last week helping her host complete a large project : paint a large mural over her living room window :

First, they had to wash off the previous window mural, that had been there for several months
already :

Finally, after a lot of scrubbing, a squeaky clean window!

Then, they started painting, and after several hours of work (over 3 days), the mural was finished! That's what it looks like from the inside :

And that's what it looks from the outside, to someone standing on the sidewalk :

A lot of people have been stopping in front of the house, pointing at the mural, smiling and waving! It helps brighten other people's mood and Peko-chan is glad that she could contribute to this project! In Canada, people have been painting or drawing rainbows and displaying them in their windows as a message of hope - that's why Peko-chan and her host integrated a rainbow in their painting.

After seeing a cute little black squirrel looking and begging for food on the front porch, Peko and her host decided to leave peanuts for the squirrels and birds outside. They figured that they may also be able to take pictures, so that Nannie, Peko-chan's mom, could see what the wild birds and animals of Canada look like. So far, a squirrels and large crows were captured on camera. A magnificent blue jay also came for the peanuts, but they weren't able to take a photo as he would fly away whenever he spotted the host by the window, trying to take a picture! Maybe later! :-)

One night, very late, as they were painting the mural, Peko-chan and her host were also surprised to see two very large raccoons come running in the driveway! At first, Peko thought that they were dogs (although she tought that they walked in a very strange manner!). The host, who is not scared of raccoons because she used to feed the ones that live behind the Parliament buildings (in downtown Ottawa), immediately went outside to try and take pictures, but the raccoons had already disappeared!

Good news: the robins are back and Peko was able to observe them going around, looking for material to build their nest with! The host told Peko that, every Spring, there are a couple of robins and a couple of cardinals that build their nests in her backyard and stay there all summer long! The host said that she's always very glad to see them!

Last week, Peko also went to the post office with her host to pick up a package. It was almost scary: there was tape around the counter to prevent people from stepping too close and the clerks wouldn't touch any piece of paper brought in by the clients. The clients had to put their papers on the counter because the clerks wouldn't even take them from their hand.

The host managed to take a quick picture while standing in line, to show Nannie what a Canadian post office looks like.
