Pinky in Dubai – Day 2 – Late December 2019


Dubai, Day 2 :

Anastasia and Pinky toured the Frame, a fascinating building with a great view!

As told by Anastasia :

"Our second place of interest was the Dubai Frame - an observation point. In one of the pictures, you can see it from afar. It's fascinating! And the best part of it is that you can go up to the top of the Frame and see the city from the 50th floor! I live on the 21st floor so Pinky is getting used to such heights but 50 floors?! What kind of futuristic building is that?! Haha!

After we bought our tickets, we didn't have time to walk around and immediately went to the Frame. Inside there was a little museum on the way to the elevators dedicated to the culture of UAE.
What Pinky loved the most is the thrilling feeling you get when you see the glass floor. Every tourist literally falls on their knees and, well, takes pictures! So did we!
From the Frame, you can observe the city but not its center with skyscrapers. They are a few metro stations away and you can see their silhouettes bathing in the sunlight.
When you stand next to the Frame you feel tiny... it's hard to imagine how people built this amazing Frame! But Pinky hadn't seen Burj Khalifa then which is the next touristic place we decided we'd visit the next day!"

Ivan and Masha were able to join their host on several nice outings in August: One nice Friday evening, after work, the host decided to take Masha and Ivan on a pizza picnic at the park. First, they went to Pizza Pizza, a fast food chain, to buy and small pizza, a can of Coke and a small bag of chips, and then they headed to the Domaine Fairview to eat quietly in nature while reading a magazine. The next day, the host took Ivan and Masha to a free concert in a local park by a classical music group that plays Tango Nuevo (mainly music composed by Astor Piazzola).  Afterwards, they went and toured the outdoors Recycl'Art exhibition, by the side of Brewery Creek. They enjoyed looking at the various sculptures made by local artists using recycled materials: Details of the giant high heel shoe shown below, that was made using thousands of pop can tabs weaved together (apparently, the artist worked on that project for several years!). Ivan and Masha explore the touristic area of downtown Ottawa - August 1st 2020 (part 1)

On Saturday August 1st, 2020, their host took Ivan and Masha to visit Ottawa. The Byward Market area : Since they are on their honeymoon, Ivan and Masha threw a coin in this fountain and wished for a long and happy life together! On Sussex Drive (it's the street on which the official prime minister's residence’s is located!) : The American embassy : A nice display on the front window of a hat maker : Standing inside the Reconciliation monument (in honor of Canadian Peacekeepers) : The National Art Gallery : Maman (mommy), by sculptor Louise Bourgeois, the giant spider that stands guard in front of the National Art Gallery. In Summer, it gets all warm from the sun! The Ottawa Cathedral : Electric scooters have just been introduced in Ottawa. People can rent them, and leave them wherever when they are done with them. Ivan and Masha explore the touristic area of downtown Ottawa - August 1st 2020 (part 2)

Terry Fox was a young Canadian who lost his leg to cancer at age 18 and decided to run across Canada, starting from Newfoundland, to raise money for cancer research. He made it all the way to Ontario and ran the equivalent of a marathon (42 km) each day for 143 days (with just one leg - can you imagine the determination and the will it must have taken?) before he got too ill to continue.
