Ivan and Masha in Ottawa-Gatineau, Canada - July 2020

Image
Ivan and Masha arrived in Gatineau at the beginning of July 2020, during the COVID-19. Since the host prefers to avoid taking the bus because of the pandemic, and sometimes, walking takes too long, one of the first outings that she took Masha and Ivan on was to Canadian Tire, to buy herself a bike. The host had not riden a bike for almost 25 years, so she was a little bit afraid that she wouldn't be able to anymore, but she was wrong to worry. It looks like riding a bike really is something that one always remembers how to do! A nice view of Gatineau and downtown Ottawa: The host's brand new bike: The host also took the newlyweds to Domaine Fairview, a large park (that used to be a private domain, and then an experimental farm) near her home. There is still a beautiful mansion there, and some of the former farm facilities, but the mansion is now used to house artists and the land is used as a green space where people can go and walk, play ball and picnic. ...

Pinky in Dubai (on her way back from the Maldives) - Day 1 - Late December 2019

Image
On their way back to Moscow from the Maldives, Anastasia and Pinky had the opportunity to spend a few days in Dubai! "Hi! Today was our first day in Dubai, UAE.  The flight took us 3:30 and we were mostly sleeping even though it wasn’t a night flight. We arrived rather late but luckily the subway was still working and we got to the hotel by train! Interesting fact: there are different kinds of cabins in Dubai subway: regular (preferably for men), one for women and children and the gold class cabin. It costs more but it’s very comfortable and there are no crowds there. We travel in the last type of cabins. I’ll try to make a picture of it but I find it awkward to take photos when there are people in the cabin... Trains of Dubai subway are completely automatic so as you can see in one of the pictures you can feel as if you were the driver! Dubai architecture is very modern in the center of the city. When you go outside, you find yourself surrounded by skyscrapers! Though...

Pinky's travel to the Maldives - 1st week of December 2019

Image
During the first week of December, Pinky travelled to the Maldives with Anastasia, her Russian host! What a fun opportunity : I'm sure she'll have a fantastic trip! Here's what I received from Nastya : « Our trip to the Maldives has begun! It took us 24 hours to get here: by car to the airport, twice by plane (5 hours each flight: Moscow-Dubai, Dubai-Male) and by hydroplane to the island. Now we’re here and we’re excited! I send you some pictures from the trip. We flew by Emirates (economy class) which is a very good company. They’re famous for their First Class where on A-380 (the biggest plane in the world) people have separate rooms all for themselves! But it’s very expensive so we choose economy class. Though the flight was comfortable. Pinky and I watched some movies including Aristocats. It’s such a cute cartoon! :)  I also send you a picture with Maldivian language. It looks so quirky!  Right now we’re at a restaurant enjoying our meal. Then we...
