Peko-chan and Supergirl on the Lac-des-Fées pathway (part 1) - April 25th, 2020

On April 25th, since it was so nice and sunny outside, the host took Peko-chan and Supergirl on a long walk to explore the Lac-des-Fées ("fairies's lake") pathway near her home. It is several kilometers long and borders the Parc de la Gatineau, a huge wilderness park that covers a large part of Gatineau.

On the way over to the pathway, Peko-chan and Supergirl posed for a picture on top of a fire hydrant, in front of a long-terme care centre for the elderly. They had a thought for these people, wishing them well, as they are being very affected by COVID-19 right now.

Nearby, the girls admired a lawn decoration statue of the Virgin Mary :

The host wanted to make a stop to check out the contents of a community book box, where people leave book for others to take. Someone had dropped a box full of novels from Quebec authors :

The girls stood for a picture in a large piece of land where hundreds of tulips bulbs had been planted and had started growing. A large tulip festival takes place every year, in May, in Ottawa-Gatineau and attracts many visitors. It is beautiful to see tulips everywhere during the festival!

A squirel's nest :

While looking for a spot for the girls to pose for a photo, we found this shallow tube attached to an electricity pole that had been filled with nest material, maybe by a little critter that intended to make its nest there.

We met an unexpected new friend in the shape of a very friendly cat. It was lounging in a tree, but when it saw the host taking a picture, it came down and ran towards her to be petted! Unfortunately, when meeting Peko-chan, it thought that she was some little prey to be eaten. Supergirl flew to her rescue! Peko-chan was a little scared, but she was still happy to have met a new friend. Luckily for her, though, her host's cats have never tried to eat her!

The girls spotted a Canada goose by the side of the road. The host explained that they had just come back from the South, where they spend the winter. In the Summer, they can be found everywhere in the city. Some people consider them to be pest, but the host loves them :

It was a delight to be out in the sun!

Wildflowers :

The girls didn't know what this strange-looking, fuzzy plant was, but they had fun standing in the middle of it for a picture :

The girls are sending their love and best wishes to their moms!

In the more urban part of the trail, along the boulevard des Allumettières ("Matches makers' boulevard" - the boulevard was given that name as a way to honor the memory of all the women
who worked in the matches making industry and ended up suffering and dying from the toxic chemicals used in the process of matches making in the early days of the city of Gatineau) :

The shadow is the host's! :

A public advertisement poster from the City of Gatineau letting people know that, in these times of COVID-19, a safe distance of two meters is equal to the length of one bike and a half.
