Peko-chan and Supergirl celebrate Easter in Canada - April 2020
During the long Easter weekend (April 10th-13th), Peko-chan and Supergirl (who had just arrived in Canada!) made a few Easter-themed crafts with their host and ate a few chocolatey treats (which the host forgot to take a picture of). They even watched a few Christian movies about Bible characters on TV as there are a lot of these movies on TV during the Easter weekend. It makes sense since Easter is about celebrating Jesus's resurrection from death and is a very important holiday for Christians. They especially liked the movie Risen, which they found very well-done and realistic. They learned a lot of things about what it must have been like at the time when the historical Jesus was alive.
Then, on Sunday, they joined their host for her annual Easter weekend cleaning ritual. They headed to the bike path that goes behind the host's house armed with plastic gloves and garbage bags, and they started to pick up trash! The grass and little park around the bike path are always covered in garbage in Spring, when the snow melts, because of all the things that people threw away during the Winter. The host thinks that it looks awful and that it could even be hurtful to all of the birds and little animals that come back in Spring and build their nests close-by, so, a few years ago, she started to take advantage of the long Easter weekend to clean the area. This year, the host, along with Peko-chan and Supergirl, managed to fill 15 small garbage bags with trash, along with 5 bags of recyclable plastic containers and a big pile of various pieces of trash that wouldn't fit inside a garbage bag! A lot of people stopped to say thank you for cleaning the area, but only one man, who was walking his dog, stopped and helped for a little while. Peko-chan thought that it was a good way to spend an afternoon doing something good for the planet. The place looked a lot cleaner after they were done and they felt very proud of themselves!
The following day, Peko-chan and Supergirl spotted the Easter bunny lounging on the front lawn and eating grass. He stayed there for a long time! The host explained that there are wild cotton-tail rabbits living in her backyard - sometimes, there are even babies. Peko-chan and Supergirl both said that they hoped to see some one day!
