The window display of a souvenir store, featuring a lot of beautiful Aboriginal artworks:

Ivan and Masha posing in front of a statue of Terry Fox. Terry Fox was a young Canadian who lost his leg to cancer at age 18 and decided to run across Canada, starting from Newfoundland, to raise money for cancer research. He made it all the way to Ontario and ran the equivalent of a marathon (42 km) each day for 143 days (with just one leg - can you imagine the determination and the will it must have taken?) before he got too ill to continue. He died of cancer shortly after but a run known as The Terry Fox Run still take place in his memory every year to raise money for cancer. He is considered a real Canadian hero and a ton of schools and other facilities were named after him. A lot of books, movies and museum exhibitions were also made about him. This statue is located on Wellington Street, right across from the Parliament buildings.

The window display of another tourist store:

The host always loved these miniature totems, so she decided to take Masha and Ivan inside to buy herself one, as a souvenir of that day touring Ottawa in their company. Ivan and Masha had fun looking at all the small Canadian souvenirs and bought a few to send home to Moscow to remind themselves of their trip to Canada:

Back on Sparks Street:

Ivan and Masha posing on the piano part of the Oscar Peterson statue, by the Canadian Arts Centre. This is a musical statue: piano music is always coming out of it.

A cute little grey squirrel who thought we had food! :-)

This interesting building, which looks a lot like a UFO, is the Ottawa Congress Centre. It is flanked by the Rideau Centre (a big mall) on one side, and by the Rideau Canal and the Canadian Arts Centre on the other.

The Rideau Canal, as seen from one side of the Mackenzie-King bridge. The tall office buildings on the side are the headquarters of the National Defence Department:

And the Rideau Canal, as seen from the other side of the Mackenzie-King bridge (looking towards the Château Laurier hotel and the Parliament buildings). This is one of the host’s favorite views of Ottawa!

A view of downtown Ottawa from the Mackenzie-King bridge:

A busy corner of the Byward Market area, which is the most touristic area of Ottawa.

The host took Ivan and Masha to a small café named Byward Café (there’s a photo of the outside of the café below) for dinner and they shared a spinach, tomato and feta cheese panini and a fruit salad:

It was a long day and the sun had already set when the host decided to take Masha and Ivan back home. They took a few more photos on their way to the bus stop:

Back at home, posing with the little totem that the host bought herself as a souvenir:
